about

In 2007 I enacted a plan to release a new collection of music every month. I kind of ran dry in July, and only finished a couple more things by the end of the year, but it was still my most prolific year.

While I was developing a whole new compositional approach for the Asphixiator colour series, I decided I should compile a bunch of little unfinished tracks into a little compilation, and that is what this is.

Many of these tracks derived from abandoned projects and experiments that led nowhere. It's also worth remembering where I was in my musical development at this point. I knew precious little about music theory, and I was largely "composing" with free software with heavy limitations - though that's part of the charm.

Some of this stuff is so weird to my ears now that I have no idea of how I could have ever come up with this stuff. Termagant takes a lot of sharp corners. Atrophied Interest features a drum pattern at the end that I got bored of on drums and instead moved directly to the piano, so it's still the notes that would've have triggered drum beats, but instead it's piano. Weird, but I find that idea endearing even though it sounds like hot stinking poop.
