about

Recorded solely using the Dirty Electronics Mute Synth which I built on 22nd October 2011 at Supersonic Festival.

The Mute Synth, designed by John Richards and Dirty Electronics, is essentially a copper etched board with a couple of oscillators and a pulse generator. It uses touch controls and tilt controls to create and modulate the sounds. It's extremely tactile, but also wildly unpredictable, which is something I find pretty exciting. You can usually coax it into a certain frequency range, but in terms of rhythm and actual pitch there is very little direct control.

Anyway, this track is two improvised takes playing off one another, one panned left the other right, plus a couple of effects. I wanted to keep it simple, and create something that captured the nature of the synth, without trying to make something especially musical out of it.
